A modern alternative to SparkNotes and CliffsNotes, SuperSummary offers high-quality Study Guides with detailed chapter summaries and analysis of major themes, characters, and more. For select classroom titles, we also provide Teaching Guides with discussion and quiz questions to prompt student engagement.

Discussion/Analysis Prompt

What languages do you speak? How might you communicate without speaking the same language? How do Tiền and Hiền communicate with each other despite their language differences? How does the author communicate with us visually?

Teaching Suggestion: This discussion can help students think about the motifs of communicating through fairytales and stories as a special language. There are many ways people communicate, both using words and using images. You can also nudge them to think about graphic novels and how illustrators communicate messages to their audience.

Differentiation Suggestion: For visual learners, show them an image and help them to think about what the creator is trying to communicate to their audience. Learners who might benefit from assistance with organizing ideas in their response might divide the prompt into two main questions—the first part, which asks about their own experiences, and the second part, which provides an opportunity to reflect on the story.
